I am the first to admit that I am not a country music fan. One day in 1991, I was mowing the grass with my Walkman on. I was listening to my normal rock station when a sudden movement changed the radio channel to a country station. Before I had the chance to change the channel back, they announced the #2 record on the Billboard country chart and played it: Brotherly Love by Keith Whitley & Earl Thomas Conley. I have to admit I never heard of either singer.
Being the kid brother to two AMAZING brothers, the song really hit me. It could have been written about me and my brothers. It took me back to younger days and all the memories I had of growing up.
Doing research, both Keith and Earl Thomas were country stars. Keith was married to country singer Lorrie Morgan and died on 5//9/89 at the age of 34 The duet was recorded in 1987 but was not released until 1991 when it appeared on separate lps/cds by each singer. It was released as a single, spent 20 weeks on the Billboard country chart and peaked at #2.
If you a country music fan, watch the amazing video to the song. If you are not a country music fan, watch it anyway. If you have a brother, it is mandatory viewing! The lump in your throat will remain for quite awhile and it will reaffirm that love for your family is the greatest love of all.
