I have long been a fan of Jane Turzy , 'though I would readily admit that her records sound dated now. Both sides of this record are equally good : very attractive ballads , well sung by Turzy , to a lilting accompaniment from Remo Biondi. Turzy faced competition from other artists on both songs , but she managed to reach no. 11 in the U.S. with " Sweet Violets ". Her other records , including " Good Morning , Mr. Echo " and " I Like It " , are well worth searching for. Jane Turzy was born in Chicago in August 1919 , and she died in Florida in November 2001. A sadly under-rated performer.
" Good Morning , Mr. Echo " is a cute , quasi-novelty number , well performed by Turzy , with a simple but effective arrangement incorporating " echo " sound-bites. Turzy reached no. 11 in the U.S. in 1955 with this song , beating rival versions by Margaret Whiting and Georgia Gibbs. Chicago-born Jane Turzy's last record was in 1964 , after which she disappeared into obscurity. She died in Florida in November 2001 , aged 82.
