There's some great stuff on this list - what are people's faves?

Some great stuff indeed. But unfortunately also some records which may be popular with the Mod Scene but don´t really belong to the Mod Revival. As that term normally refers to artists which sprang up after 1979´s success of the Quadrophenia film (and OST) and the Jam´s All Mod Cons album. So we´re talking bout ca. 1979-1982. So more Purple Hearts than Bruce Foxton me thinks. The latter´s solo efforts were never popular in the scene btw. Also the Afex´ s recent EP is not really a "Mod Revival" record.

I have to aggree partially with Wurzel.

Personally I think the term "Mod Revival" really covers the period 1977 to 1985. If you ignore the obvious take out The Jam, The Style Council & Two Tone. Foxton shouldnt be on there at all as all his records were considered extremely lame by anybodys standards!

Vital bands would be The Chords, The Purple Hearts, Secret Affair, The Prisoners, The Circles & Making Time.
2nd division - The Crooks, The Jolt, Strangeways, Cigarettes, The Gents.
Lots of obscure ones, look down my collection for Weekend, The Step, Inset, etc.

I agree about The Chords:- Maybe Tomorrow would be a favourite, but my best band of the time, and therefor the single I would choose, are Mood Six and the Plastic Flowers/It's Your Life single.

My fave Mod Rival Band was

The Cigarettes but I can't see it on the list.

And the Chords were one of the best.

Agree with time frame - but what about the mid/late 80s stuff on Unicorn and 90s/00s on Detour? Third wave mod revival?!

Agree on Foxton, although I knew mods back in the day that did buy/collect!

Ah yes, the short-lived early-80s psychedelia revival - a pretty underground affair! I did own a Mood Six LP for a while. Got to say I now love the psych-tinged Pop-ish Frenzy Purple Hearts period, but didn't like it at the time!

I'm a massive Jam fan so being a Mod went with territory. My favourite Mod revival song was Go Steady by the Lambretta's - a classic.

Here's one from Finland that most UK collectors probably don't know. Certainly has that heart-stopping Chords / Purple Hearts sound. They were on a few comps but this was their only 45.

Wow! Soon as I saw the title of this thread, this record popped into my head! And yes I do know I'm a poet! :pleased:
