There are some pretty heinous ones out there . . . my first nomination goes to Flashback Records:

And more the shame since the 1970s Bell Records logo is a gorgeous piece of art. And the fact that Arista went through so many label design changes and kept that Flashback label boggles my mind . . . .

The grey era of Warner Bros. was a bit dull.

Hmm... quite a few to choose from. Have always hated the RAK label design but the worst one for me - for today - has to be Jam Records. Granted, it was eye catching in that it was a little more colourful than others of it's era (British labels were never that colourful) but a splodge of jam and that naff logo combined... I hate it!

John -- Your mention of the projectile vomiting is dead on for Westbound. I think that I get more riled up by the lazy ugly labels. That Westbound at least someone spent some time on it. Now, was done in :30 seconds.

Yeah Beary, I do agree the "brown/tan" MCA is quite boring considering it's wedged between the two "Rainbow" variations (The UK never got this label, they went from black/rainbow to Blue/cloud/ rainbow)....I've always thought Westbound was "ugly" from the moment I saw it though....John

It's got to be Major Minor. It looks as if it belongs in Wilkinsons. The top of a tin of grease or floor polish or the label off a packet of sanding discs.

Never thought of Major Minor that way -- but I can now see it.

I know that injection mold labels are their own problem, but this is ghastly:

Charly - the one with the cartoon man looking through the centre of a record. I've got a soft spot for labels that have the credits on one side and a design on the other, but not that one. Oh, and I quite like the Jam label - it went with the company sleeve. It just shows, tastes differ. And a good job, too.

I like the Jam label as well, I can't see what's to dislike about it, and the RAK label.
I don't like any of the 80's silver moulded labels.

Must admit I've never really been partial to this EMI label in it's various shades.
Very much in your face so to speak.

and

Although you certainly new the label at a glance and it seemed to suit EMI for about 7 or 8 years.

Conversely, it's one of my favourite sixties label designs. The use of red, white and black, the two MMs sitting in the middle of the centre, the striking font - I find it hypnotic, and I often find myself buying Major Minor singles I later realise I shouldn't have bothered with.

I agree that the EMI design is horrific with a ghastly colour scheme, but for me it doesn't quite touch this era of Epic:

It looks like the logo for Etam (or some similar clothes store or perhaps eighties clothing catalogue) placed over a dull, depressing shade of blue.

My pc was a bit slow in coming up with the label and all I thought I could read was "I do really dislike Pizza"

Must get a new set of glasses.

I must agree though, the label is not much to my liking either.

Whoever was creative design at Janus Records, takes the cake. Between the projectile vomit Westbound and this bad acid trip

I think this person scored some really bad acid.

It looks a lot better in a company sleeve.

Or possibly worse! as it's even more stripes but I kinda like it.
