The Yellow Balloon

A: Yellow Balloon

after diligent research to find the truth. It would seem ironically that Don Grady did not participate on the song Yellow Balloon after all. It was recorded before he joined the group, then he played on the rest of the tracks. I'm Just reporting on an article by Gary Zekely and his recounting the Yellow Balloon story

The population of Canada at that time was approx. 18 million. and it's the second largest country in the world behind Russia. Capitol of Canada could not afford to make Picture Sleeves in the 60's although the Staccatos was the exception for one single Let's Run away in Black and white. There were no Beach Boy Capitol promos from Canada during the 60's. Capitol of Canada would not make anymore promos than necessary to send to Canadian cities. Realistically speaking only a couple of cities in the Maritime provinces would have received a promo. Halifax, NS and Fredricton, NB. PEI is too small a place and the Newfies were still singing God save the Queen and Probably didn't know who the Beatles were in '67. They(Newfoundland) were a British colony until 1949.
obviously cties like Montreal CFCF CFOX AND CKGM, and Quebec city Toronto CHUM of course, and one more station. than Windsor CKLW, one Ottawa radio station, one Hamilton station, one Sudbury station, maybe Kitchener Waterloo area and London, Ontario. Winnipeg CKEY and one more possibly. Regina only one, Edmonton possibly 2 stations, Calgary only one. Vancouver CKLG, CFUN. one Victoria station.
I doubt if Whitehorse, Yukon received a copy. everything was delivered by dogsleigh up there in '67. and if they did get one, it would've been frozen.
And this ends another one of my accurate accounts of Canadian folklore in '67 with a little poetic licence to spice it up a little.
So count 'em up . I'd be shocked if there were many other places they could have been sent to

If it's true the promo was distributed only to major Canadian radio stations. I guarantee you back in '67 there were not a hundred major radio stations in Canada. You would be hardpressed to find 50 major radio stations in Canada. But 50 would be a closer number

Yes Recorddragon it's close to being accurate, although host in French is hote with the circonflex on the o it's a pointed little hat.
An Animatrice is for a female. an Animateur is for a male.
it's more translated to a sales manager of the radio station. you have to use a little poetic licence to translate. not everything is translated verbatim from english into french.

The Beatles

A: From Me To You
B: Thank You Girl
My former wife and her girlfriends were listening to the Beatles on a Cleveland station back in the late spring of '63. My wife is no trivia expert , she just lived the era and was born in '48 which is several years older than myself.
Anyway the song must have been From me to You, my wife recalls they were so excited to hear the Beatles' song they wanted to buy the Beatles album, but found none existed in the US. They grew up in Silver Lake, Ohio near Akron an exclusive community of the upper crust of society living in mansions. So having all the amenities at their disposal. they called long distance to England and ordered the Beatles lp which they found out was titled Please Please me, as my wife mentioned that specific title for the album. Back then overseas calls were extremely expensive but not if you could afford it. obviously they found out who to order the album from and was sent directly to her girlfriend's house. my wife told me school was about out by this time. and they had a bunch of the girls come over and listen to the Beatles Please Please Me in June '63
So whether my wife's American girlfriends had bought the first Beatles album from the UK , is a matter of conjecture but they were certainly ahead of the curve when it came to the Beatles. So not just a few 45s were bought back in the spring and summer of '63 .Who knows what other American teenage girls who grew up with a privileged lifestyle and heard the Beatles in the Spring may have imported the Please Please Me album from England.
Some American girls were already listening and buying Beatle records as early as the spring of '63 and a few even bought the Please Please Me album from England.
