Sounds like she was trying to distance herself from her "Pink Shoe Laces" past. I seem to recall in her days with Sergio Mendes' Brasil 'xx (not sure if she joined near the tail end of Brasil '66 or as it was morphing into Brasil '77), she was using the name Geri Stevens.

This was an answer to the big Kenny Rogers record. It bubbled under in BB in 1969 (date error above)
