"Novelty Instrumental" - indeed, to a British audience it certainly would have been. As for Piano Red, his UK HMV 78 of "Let's Have A Good Time Tonight" must've sold a few copies. I turned up more than one copy here in Australia in the '60s when 78s were still common in secondhand shops. Or maybe they were actually Aussie pressings? Anyway, that non-threatening goodtimey sound would have easily slipped under the radar in the same way Fats Waller managed to do it in an earlier era.
