The title of this record prompts me to comment on the easy mix of white and black studio musicians in New York (and Los Angeles) in the '50s and '60s, but not generally known to us, the record buying public at the time. RCA session files for Neil Sedaka (not a favourite of mine) show the musicians on most of his 1958 and 1959 sessions were black guys: King Curtis, Ernie Hayes, Everett Barksdale, Milt Hinton, Sticks Evans etc. A Chuck Sagle or Stan Applebaum arrangement and some white chicks in the background (and of course Sedaka's voice) would make the record pop rather than R&B as far as the trade mags and airplay was concerned. I just like the thought of all those studio musicians quietly getting on with their jobs and ignoring the race issue.
