Notes

Record Mirror review Mar 23, 1968.
This record was also issued under the artist name Henri And His Hobo Amigos with the same catalogue number and tracks.

Anyone know why?

Got the record but didn't know the background. For what it's worth the group were billed under this name supporting Rupert's People at Hastings Pier on 14/4/68, presumably to promote the single.

Added this comment on the Henri and His Hobo Amigos entry but for completeness sake thought I'd do so here as well.

The band was originally called The Inhibition. They were a London-based R&B / soul combo who were led by Henry Buckle and featured Dennis Homes (later of Synanthesia). 'Tonopeh' - according to Homes' sleevenotes for the reissue of the Synanthesia album - was a pre-recorded number with session musicians, although 'Anytime' was the band.

The name Henri & His Hobo Amigos, and also the subsequent change to Santos Morados, were nothing to do with the band and the first they knew about it was when the records appeared.

Wow 2 of us have heard this.Great shame this and other hard to find Island rock 45s have not been compiled on CD.
One comment I heard was Tonopah sounded like a cross between Elvis 'Old Shep' and Procul Harum 'Whiter shade of pale
Definitely deserved wider audience!

Sounds a bit like Mike Harrison or Joe Cocker
